Taxi driver gets 10-year term for raping minor

A local court on Thursday awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment to a taxi driver, Gaurav (25), for raping a minor girl and also imposed Rs 10,000 fine on him.

The incident took place in January this year when Gaurav who hails from Delhi asked the victim's father, a roadside vendor, to direct him to some nearby liquor vend. The accused gave the minor girl and her father lift in the car.
On reaching the liquor vend, the accused asked the victim's father to fetch liquor for him.
As the victim's father got off the car, the accused fled along with the victim.

Later, the accused left the girl near her residence in Sector 26 at 2 am the same night. The medical report of the victim had confirmed rape and the victim had also identified the accused in the court.
The police had arrested Gaurav within 12 hours of the crime. The victim in her statement to the court under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code had deposed that the accused beat her up after she tried to raise an alarm when the accused forced himself on her.
