The Punjab education department has decided to telecast live the speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Teacher's Day on September 5 for the students of all government schools across the state.

The programme will be re-transmitted to some 3,000 schools from the state's Edusat studio at SAS Nagar, where arrangements have been made for an uninterrupted relay through the extension cameras.

However, around 10,000 schools, including all primary schools, will arrange television sets for students as Edusat is linked to only 3,114 schools for Classes 9 to 12, an education department official said.

"Efforts are on to overcome the technical hiccups, since a majority of the schools in the state are not linked to Edusat," the official said.

The schools, wherever feasible, had been asked to combine the middle and high schools with primary school students for a projector show of the programme, he added.

Education minister Daljit Singh Cheema has convened a meeting of senior officials on Wednesday for further liaison with the districts.
