The Chandigarh Police on Tuesday arrested representatives of the ETT Adhayapak Union of Punjab outside the residence of state's Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in Sector 2 here after protesters began assembling near the Parade Ground in Sector 17 in the afternoon.
The agitators wanted that the Government of Punjab should agree to put 13,500 ETT teachers in 5,000 elementary schools under the control of the Department of Education.
The protesters were barred from marching up to Punjab Bhawan, but a small delegation was allowed to go up to the CM’s residence, where the latter’s OSD allegedly told them to show up later.
The police also changed their stance and arrested members of the teachers' delegation on the plea that a case against them was pending at Sector 26 since last year when the ETT teachers had barged into the head office of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Sector 28. The police, later, released all teachers.
