In its executive committee meet on Wednesday, Government Teachers Union criticised the education department for sitting over the promotion of Junior Basic Teachers (JBT) for over three months and demanded immediate promotion orders post Diwali.

Union president Vinod Sharma said the issue regarding promotion of JBT teachers was under consideration of the education department since 2011.

"The present directorate public instructions (DPI) restarted the process six months back but until now, promotion list has not been issued," he said.

He added that the decision making process in the department had completely halted and no one was held accountable in case of delays.

He said several issues, including fixation of notional pay of UT cadre teachers, increase in salary of part-time lecturer and regularisation of SSA teachers, were pending for the last several years.

In the meeting, the members pointed out that the demands must be implemented in a time-bound manner. The teachers of UT cadre were being discriminated by selective decision in favour of teachers on deputations.

"If our demands will not be fulfilled, the union will be compelled to fight the interest of teaching community, said the members.
