Teenage girl shot dead near Kaithal

Violence marked Pindal village, near here, on Wednesday morning after a motorcycle-borne youth shot dead Shikha, a Class 8th student and injured another Class 12th girl, Amandeep Kaur.

The injured was immediately rushed to Rajindera Hospital, Patiala, in a serious condition.

The incident when the girls were walking to their school at the same village.The assailant sped away from the spot after committing the crime.

Soon after the incident, family members and other villagers came on the road and protested against the killing.

They placed the victim's body on Kaithal-Patiala road and damaged at least two buses of Haryana roadways, though no casualty was reported in the violent protests.

Meanwhile, the superintendent of police Kuldeep Singh told HT over the phone that the police was yet to nab the accused.

He confirmed that only one motorcycle-borne youth attacked the girls. SP said that no villager had come forward as a witness in the case and the matter are under investigation.

"Parents' statements are being awaited to know if they hold any suspicion against any individual in the incident. Postmortem examination report of the deceased is also awaited to ascertain the number of fatal bullets injuries she suffered in the unprovoked crime," said the SP.
