Telephone tapping case: Vigilance bureau seeks sanction to prosecute former Himachal DGP

The anti - corruption and vigilance bureau on Thursday submitted a draft chargesheet in the infamous telephone tapping case and sought sanction to prosecute for mer director g eneral of police (DGP) ID Bhandhari.

In the draft chargesheet sent to the home department, the vigialnce bureau maintained that tele phones were tapped illegally during the regime of the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

The bureau mentioned that the investigations concluded that in cer tain cases the telephones were tapped without verifying the address proofs of the telephone subscribers and majority of them were cellular subscribers.

The draft chargesheet also mentions about maintaining the telephonic conversations beyond the permissible limit. It also refers to the pen drive and the eight audio compact discs that were recovered from the CID office during thye investigations.

The chargesheet substantiated that the conversation in the audio compact discs and the pen drive were of the period from 2009 onwards, which otherwise should have been destroyed within six months in accordance to the rules of Indian telegraphic act.
