Temperatures increase slightly in Punjab, Haryana

In a slight relief to the people from biting cold conditions, minimum temperatures today registered an increase at many places in Punjab and Haryana. The minimum temperature at Adampur in Punjab's Jalandhar district, which was the coldest place in the two states yesterday at minus 0.5 degrees celsius, rose to 7 degrees today, four notches above normal, a MeT official said.

In a slight relief to the people from biting cold conditions, minimum temperatures today registered an increase at many places in Punjab and Haryana.


The minimum temperature at Adampur in Punjab's Jalandhar district, which was the coldest place in the two states yesterday at minus 0.5 degrees celsius, rose to 7 degrees today, four notches above normal, a MeT official said.

The night temperature at Amritsar, too, rose from yesterday's 0.8 degrees celsius to 3.5 degrees celsius, the official said.

Patiala and Ludhiana also registered an increase in minimum temperatures recording low of 7.2 degrees celsius and 7.7 degrees celsius respectively.

Hisar and Narnaul in Haryana, however, continued to reel under biting cold conditions, recording below normal minimums of 1.1 degrees celsius and 1.2 degrees celsius.

Bhiwani and Karnal also experienced cold weather at 3.4 degrees celsius, but Ambala registered a slight increase in minimum temperature at 7.5 degrees celsius.

Cloudy weather prevailed in Chandigarh, where minimum temperature increased by over a notch since yesterday to settle at 7.4 degrees celsius.

The MeT official said fog had lifted from most places barring Ludhiana and Karnal, where visibility levels were low this morning.
