A ten-day training camp for the Indian women’s kabaddi team prior to the 5th Kabaddi World Cup began at Guru Nanak Dev Stadium on Monday.
The names of as many as 24 players were shortlisted in the second phase of the trials which were conducted last week at the same venue.
The players are being trained in a ten-day-long camp which willculminate on December 4.
Among 24 players, 14 players have already represented India in last year’s world cup while there are 10 new additions to this year’s squad.
On the opening day itself, players were seen sweating it out while learning new techniques from their coaches and implementing them during the training session.
According to the organisers, although there will be a psychological advantage for the defending champions (home team) but the battle for the title would never be easy for the women’s team this time around as there will be some new tough contenders who would be aiming for the same.
All the players will be going through a dope test post the training camp which is most likely be conducted at Delhi.
