Highlight Story

Our four-legged friends will get to strut their stuff a little early this time, as the annual Chandigarh Dog Show would be held on December 15, 2013, instead of February, when it usually does. Confirms Col (retd) MGS Khurana, one of the vice-presidents of the Kennel Club of Chandigarh, which would be holding the show, “Now that there are dog shows being held in many cities of Punjab, the Kennel Club of India gave us December 15 to put up our show on.”

Khurana claims that they have received as many as 300 entries so far. Sharing more information about the show, he says, “This is the first time that two international breeds would be participating this time – the Borzoi (Russian wolfhound) and Akita (a Japanese watchdog). There would be seven groups of dogs participating, under which 99 categories would be there. Of the two judges, one is from Latvia.” Another change this time is an increase in the entry fee, which is now Rs 1,000 per participating dog.

The show, which would begin at 9.30 am at Leisure Valley, Sector 10, Chandigarh, would be preceded by a mandatory vet inspection of the participant dogs at 8.30 am. The furry friends would then get the chance to parade and be judged on the basis of various points.

On being asked if there would continue to be present breeders from the region who sell puppies at below the recommended age, Khurana says it’s something that can’t be helped. To know what this year’s dog show would be all about, you’d have to go and check it out!
