Thousands of men, women and children on Sunday took part in annual rath yatra of Lord Jagannath, Maan Subhadra and Lord Baldev amid chanting of religious hymns.

Earlier, the week-long Bhagwata katha ended at the local Shiva temple from where the yatra was flagged off by former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, Vishnu Swamiji Maharaj and Vamanji Maharaj, the founder of Dangri math of Gauri sect. A bhandra was also arranged for devotees on the occasion.

The yatra will end at Dangri village after crossing through various parts of Hamirpur town, covering a distance of about 22 kilometre.

Addressing the congregation, Swami Vishnu Prashadji Maharaj said that Bhagwat katha was aimed at clearing the mind and soul of people from ill feelings and taking them to Lord Krishna, the creator of this universe.

Former chief minister PK Dhumal on the occasion said that such functions were badly needed as they lead to spiritual enlightenment of masses.

Later on, the yatris reached Dangri Math of Gauriya sect and held a sankirtan progrmame there and also took part in a bhandara.
