Three held for assaulting woman constable

The police booked a man for threatening the station house officer (SHO) of the Sector-19 police station, while his sister and two other women were arrested for assaulting a woman constable.

The police received a call at around 4am that three girls were creating a ruckus under the influence of alcohol near Labour Chowk in Sector 20.

A woman police control room vehicle rushed to the spot, where the accused allegedly assaulted a lady constable Manisha and tore her uniform.

SHO Sector 19 police station inspector Poonam Dilawari said the man had been identified as Sandeep Kumar, the brother of one of the women. Kumar called Dilawari at around 7am and threatened her of dire consequences if she registered a case against his sister and the other two women.

Kumar is also wanted in a robbery case. A case has been registered against him at the Sector 19 police station.

Dilawari further said out of the three arrested, one was a minor. A case has been registered against them under Sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
