Three held for rape of 40-year-old woman

A 40-year-old woman alleged that she was raped by an auto-rick shaw driver, while two of his friends restrained her family, at her residence in Sector 52 on Monday night. Following the complaint, the police have arrested three youths for the crime. It claimed the woman was raped to avenge an old enmity with her husband.

The victim, wife of an autorickshaw driver, said she was raped in the presence of her husband and brother-in-law.

The three accused have been identified as auto driver Arun Singh (21) and Rahul (19), both residents of Sector 52, and Ravi Kumar (24), a resident of Sector 38.

The victim alleged that the trio barged into her house and entered into an argument with her husband and brother-in-law, and later tied them up before assaulting them. Arun then locked the room and raped her.

The victim’s family lodged a complaint with the police after the accused left the spot. The police have re gistered a case under sections 376 (rape), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC. According to the police, both parties had entered into a fight at least twice.

The medical of the victim was conducted at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, which confirmed rape. The accused were sent to judicial custody on Tuesday.
