Three men were killed in the city in three different road accidents on Sunday. In the first incident, a 25-year-old resident of Sector 20 was killed after a truck hit his motorcycle near the Hallomajra light point here on Sunday.
Deceased Hemant Sharma, who worked for a private company, was on his way to Zirakpur, the police said.
The police were informed and the victim was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, where doctors declared him brought dead. The driver of the truck, Prabhu Yadav, a resident of Darua village, was arrested and his vehicle impounded.
A case under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC has been registered at the Industrial Area police station. The accused was later released on bail.
Meanwhile, a 57-year-old resident of Colony Number 5 was killed in a road accident here on Sunday. Babu Lal was hit by an unidentified vehicle near Burail Jail. Lal was a shoemaker. The police said the deceased was spotted in a pool of blood by a passer-by, who informed the police.
The victim had suffered serious injuries on the head and other parts of the body. He was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital at Sector 32, where doctors declared him brought dead. The body has been kept in the hospital mortuary and will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination.
A case under Section 304-A of the IPC has been registered against the unidentified driver at the Sector-34 police station.
In another incident, a 60-year-old resident of Zirakpur was run over by a truck at Manimajra. The incident took place in the evening near Fun Republic when Umed Singh was returning home on his scooter. He ran a scooter repair shop at Manimajra. The victim was taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16, where he was declared brought dead. The truck driver, Budh Singh, was arrested and a case under Section 304-A of the IPC was registered at the Manimajra police station.
