The Punjab government on Wednesday suspended three superintendents of police (SPs) for indiscipline, with immediate effect.
The three Punjab Police Service (PPS) officers SP (operations), Gurdaspur, Jaskirat Singh Chahal; SP (detective), Batala, Paramjit Singh Grewal; and SP (headquarters), Tarn Taran, Rachpal Singh Ghuman have been placed under suspension for indiscipline on the recommendation of the inspector general (IG), border range, Amritsar, a spokesman said here.
There were complaints against Grewal that he often consumed liquor and created nuisance in police stations. "He was also not discharging his official duties properly and has not made efforts to control crime. His actions have brought a bad name to the police department," the spokesman said.
Chahal has been suspended for consuming liquor during duty hours and not putting on his uniform, the spokesman said.
Ghuman has been suspended for not taking his job seriously despite being warned repeatedly. Recently, he showed slackness in the security duty during the President's visit by pretending to be sick, as per the charges against the SP.
Earlier, inspector general SK Asthana, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, had been suspended for keeping manpower more than the authorised strength and misusing it, the spokesman added.
