The crime branch of Chandigarh police claimed to have solved three cases of theft with the arrest of a BBA student here on Friday.
The accused has been identified as Sahil Kumar, a resident of SAS Nagar.
Police recovered a stolen car, gold ornaments worth around 6 lakh and an imported revolver from his possession.
Inspector, crime, Ranjodh Singh, said the police got a tip-off, after which they laid a trap at Industrial Area on June 24 and arrested Sahil. He was earlier arrested by the police for burglary in 2011, and later in May 2013.
According to the police, after coming out on bail, Sahil took to snatching and thefts again. The crime branch said more than 10 cases of snatchings, thefts and other offences have been registered against him.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that he had completed his BBA degree from Canada, and took to crime due to his bad habit of drug addiction. He used to roam around the city to identify houses which were locked in the day time and broke into them to commit burglaries.
Sahil was produced in the court from where he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
