Officials of the state government held meetings with other official stakeholders in Karnal and Panipat on reducing toll tax charges for the national higway-1.
Additional deputy commissioner, Karnal, Girish Arora, said that it was estimated that by introducing the proposed facility, the number of beneficiaries would be increased by 50%.
"It is proposed that vehicles registered in Haryana would be given concessions for paying toll tax at various places, including the existing plaza at Samana Bahu (Karnal) and the elevated highway in Panipat," he said.
Arora said that the issue of shifting the toll plaza near Madhuban was also discussed.
"Due to certain legal issues, the private company informed the state authorities that it was planning to approach the Supreme Court for permission to shift the toll plaza near Madhuban to plug its losses," said the ADC.
The meetings were chaired by the principal secretary of public works (building and roads), Sanjeev Kaushal. Officials from the district administration, National Highway Authority of India and a private company engaged in building and maintaining the highway, were also present.
