Even as the competition got tougher, St John’s High School, Chandigarh, has managed to retain the top spot in the HT-- C-fore Top Schools Survey 2014 for the tricity. With John’s completing a hat-trick, there are no changes from last time on the second and third spots either — Carmel Convent School and Sacred Heart Public School have retained their ranks.
Of the top 10 ranks, Chandigarh has bagged seven and shared the 10th spot. SAS Nagar has one entry and Panchkula has two. Both satellites had one entry each in 2012 and 2013. From Panchkula, The Gurukul, which was 13th last year, has bagged the 10th spot in a tie with St Kabir Public School, Chandigarh. Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula, has improved from 10th to ninth, while SAS Nagar is represented by Yadavindara Public School this time too, its rank improving from tied seventh to sixth.
The rankings, based on participation as well as independent assessment of the schools, are carried out for HT by renowned agency C-fore. Schools are judged on 14 parameters with a total weightage of 1,000 points. While the rankings had 25 participants last time — 15 from Chandigarh and five each from SAS Nagar and Panchkula — this time the number went over 40.
Delhi Public School, Chandigarh, which was bracketed third last time and came third in 2012 as well, improved its score by 11 points but still went down to the seventh spot, shared with Vivek High School, Chandigarh, as many others improved even more. St Kabir has gone from bracketed seventh to bracketed 10th even as its score has gone up from 716 to 756.
GMSSS not far behind
Two government schools from Chandigarh — Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 16, and GMSSS, Sector 35 — were assessed for the first time, and bagged the 20th and 26th spots in the tricity. While GMSSS-16 is best on the parameter of value for money, its Sector-35 counterpart is third on that count. If we go just by the city of Chandigarh, GMSSS-16 is 11th and GMSSS-35 is 15th.
