Top Congress leaders, including All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh, several former chief ministers and a former MP and cine actor and a former cricketer would campaign for the party in the ensuing Haryana assembly elections.
Among senior leaders whose names figured on the list of star campaigners approved by the AICC president on Friday, for conducting campaign in the coming Vidhan Sabha elections in Haryana were AICC general secretary Shakeel Ahmed, Janardhan Dwivedi, Ambika Soni, Digvijaya Singh and Ajay Maken.
Former chief minister of Punjab and deputy leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Capt Amarinder Singh, leader and deputy leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma, respectively, would campaign in Haryana, a Congress release said.
Chief ministers of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Virbhadra Singh and Harish Rawat, respectively, would also campaign in Haryana, it added.
Former cricketer and ex-MP Mohd Azharuddin, cine actor and former MP Raj Babbar would also campaign for Congress candidates, besides several former Congress chief ministers, including Ashok Gehlot, of Rajasthan, former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal from Punjab.
The release added that besides most of Haryana Congress leaders like HPCC president Ashok Tanwar and chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, former MPs and ministers, leaders from Punjab, including Partap Singh Bajwa, Sunil Jakhar, former union ministers Kumari Selja, who is currently Rajya Sabha member, and Salman Khurshid would also campaign in Haryana.
