Punjab agriculture minister Tota Singh approached Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday to seek suspension of one-year jail term handed to him by additional district and sessions court at Mohali for misusing an official vehicle and to seek bail in the case.
On May 5, a Mohali court had found Tota Singh guilty of misusing an official vehicle of Punjab School Education Board during his stint as the education minister in the earlier SAD-BJP government during 1997-2002, causing a huge loss to the board and had handed him one-year prison sentence.
However, the court had acquitted him of more serious charge of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Tota Singh was also granted bail by the court on the same day.
The petition, filed in the high court registry on Tuesday, is expected to come up for hearing later this week.
