The hill state Shimla on Wednesday experienced fresh spell of snowfall which further intensified cold wave across the region.
The snowfall continued since morning. Shimla witnessed 3cm of snowfall while nearest tourist resort Kufri received 6cm and Narkanda experienced 8cm of snowfall.
Higher reaches of Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba have also been receiving snowfall since Tuesday.
Owing to inclement weather, mercury further fell by few notches in the state. The minimum temperature in Shimla was recorded at 1 degree Celsius while Keylong recorded -2.4 degree celsius.
Tourist town of Manali also experienced fresh snowfall and as per Meteorology department, nearly 6cm of fresh snow was recorded so far.
In Shimla region, vehicular movement was hampered on roads leading to rural areas. National highway connecting Shimla to tribal Kinnaur was disrupted near Narkanda. State highway leading to Rohru was disrupted at Kharapathar where 10cm of fresh snowfall was recorded.
With higher reaches under snow blanket, biting cold wave gripped the Kullu region. Kullu town has been experiencing light rains since morning while heavy snowfall was recorded on Rohtang Pass.
Shimla Meteorological cente director Mmanmohan Singh said in next 30 hours more snow could be expected.
“In next 24 hours several places may experience moderate snowfall while lower hills may be lashed with moderate rains,” he said.
