A teenager and an unidentified person believed to be in his 40s were killed while another teen was seriously injured after a train hit them at different locations in SAS Nagar on Saturday.
The 13-year-old victim was identified as Hanuman, a resident of Colony Number 5, who died after being run over by the Rupnagar-Ambala train near Jagatpura village. The one injured in this mishap is Ramesh, 17, also a resident of Colony Number 5, who has been admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32. The same train killed an unidentified person, dressed in a grey dhoti, at Tolemajra near Kharar.
In the first incident, eyewitnesses said a group of five youths was loitering on the tracks around 4.30pm when the train hit and left one dead while three escaped unhurt.
Shocked over the death, Hanuman's father Sesh Narain said his son had gone out to play with his friends. "His body kept lying on the tracks for nearly two hours as the railway police arrived late."
Explaining the delay, a railway police team member said, "Owing to another accident at Tolemajra, the Kharar railway police team had gone to that spot. Another team was called in from Rupnagar which took time."
In both cases, no foul play was suspected immediately, and inquest proceedings initiated.
