Rail traffic at Tohana town in Fatehabad district was disrupted for nearly two hours on Monday as supporters of BJP and Haryana Janhit Congress under the banner of BJP Kisan Morcha sat on a dharna on the tracks.
Trains running on Sirsa-Jind and New Delhi-Ferozepur routes were stopped at Jakhal and Damtana Sahib (Narwana) in the afternoon due to the sit-in at Tohana.
The protesters gathered near Tohana railway station around 12pm and started moving towards the railway tracks. A posse of policemen tried to stop them but protesters pushed them aside.
BJP Kisan Morcha state president Subhash Barala said, "It is a symbolic dharna against the Centre government's indifference towards farmers by not providing them remunerative Minimum Support Price (MSP)."
He warned that if the government failed to provide appropriate MSP to farmers, they would intensify their agitation.
Jagdish Chopra, BJP state vice-president, said, "With the implementation of the MS Swaminathan report, farmers would get remunerative prices for their agricultural crops. There would be a separate budget for agriculture on the pattern of railway budget and farmers can then avail of subsidies on seeds distribution, fertilisers and other agriculture inputs."
