The Punjab transport department has implemented the e-governance project in all 22 districts of the state.
Stating this here on Wednesday, transport minister Ajit Singh Kohar stated that with the introduction of this online project, the dependence of the public on officers had been minimised.
He said computerisation of the department was not restricted to one or two services but included registration at the dealers' desk, online payment of fee and taxes, licences at educational institutes etc.
He said Punjab had become the first state in the country to introduce the smart card facility for driving licences and certificates for the registration of vehicles.
Kohar said the governments of Uttarakhand and Odisha were on the way to introducing the project in their states. A team from Kenya also visited Punjab to study the project, the minister added.
