For causing harassment to a 63-year-old resident of Sector 42, Chandigarh, by failing to provide confirmed air tickets despite charging money, Sector 34 based Moonsoon Travels has been asked to pay Rs 30,000 as compensation by the district consumer disputes redressal forum on Tuesday.
The forum directed the travel agency to refund Rs 3,100 to complainant Ravinder Pal Singh. Besides, Rs 5,000, as cost of litigation, would also be paid to Ravinder, asked the forum.
Ravinder alleged that he had purchased two tickets from Moonsoon Travels to go to Sydney from Delhi in August 2012. He also had purchased the return ticket of Malaysia Airlines scheduled in April 2013 for himself and his wife Inderjit Kaur.
The complainant alleged that after reaching the Delhi airport on August 1, 2012, they had found that there was no booking on their name. However, after two hours, the travel agent had confirmed the tickets and the couple had reached their destination.
Ravinder said he had transferred Rs 3,100 in the bank account of the travel agent as per rescheduling fee.
Moonsoon Travels were proceeded exparte as none appeared despite service.
"The complainant suffered harassment because of the careless attitude of Moonsoon Travels, who failed to confirm the booking of the return air tickets of the complainant even after getting the full payment. Thus, the travel agent failed in providing proper services to the complainant,"opined the consumer forum.
