Holding travel company Thomas Cook (India) Limited deficient in services for failing to “provide stay in the promised hotels” to a family based in Panchkula's Sector 7, the district consumer disputes redressal forum here has directed it to pay a compensation of Rs 25,000 along with Rs 7000 as cost of litigation.
The complainant, Arun Maheshwari, had moved consumer forum, alleging deficiency in services against Thomas Cook (India) Limited. The order was passed on November 28.
In his complaint, Maheshwari had said that in May 2012, he had booked a group package named 'Scandic East Europe 18 nights/19 days' with the company, commencing from June 6, 2012.
He said that he was provided the itinerary, mentioning therein the details and names of the sights to be shown, accommodations to be provided, location of hotels, airfare and travel visa. The total cost of the package was Rs 2.32 lakh a head for four persons, including his wife and two sons.
He alleged that his family faced inconvenience and harassment during the tour as they were not provided with the hotels and services as mentioned in the itinerary. Thomas Cook (India) Limited had denied any deficiency in services and sought the complaint's dismissal.
