Indian troops late Friday night foiled two infiltration bids by men said to be Pakistan-trained militants in Jhangar and Tarkundi sectors in Rajouri.
Army spokesperson Col RK Palta said soldiers deployed along the cobra fence in Jhangar sector in Noushera tehsil noticed the movement of some persons heading towards forward Indian posts.
Troops challenged the unidentified intruders who immediately hid themselves behind thick vegetation and opened fire on the soldiers, he said.
The Indian side retaliated with continuous fire for sometime and after that no movement was noticed.
Defence sources said the intruders might have retreated. In the wee hours of Saturday, troops searched the area for any possible entry or anything that they may have left behind, but found nothing.
Reliable sources at Noushera tehsil did not confirm the incident.
In the second incident, troops of Jat regiment manning the borders in Tarkundi sector in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district opened fire after noticing movement at about 11 pm on Friday.
The intermittent firing continued till 11.40 pm. Sources in the defence are yet to confirm if it was an infiltration bid.
