Two arrested for murder of SAD worker

The police have arrested two persons in connection to the murder of a 29-year-old Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) activist, who was killed on July 8 in a clash at Kambali Road near Phase 9, SAS Nagar.

Gurjant Singh alias Jenta was allegedly murdered by accused, identified as Kuldeep Singh alias Deepa(29) and Sukhpreet Singh alias Roda (25), both residents of Dharamgarh village in SAS Nagar. Meanwhile, of the seven persons booked in the case, five -Dalvir Singh alias Dali, Kamaljit Singh alias Kamal, both residents of village Dharamgarh, Bakarpur village resident Harpreet Singh Toor, Landran resident Rupinder Singh, and Gaurav, a resident of Khuda Lahora, Chandigarh- are still absconding.

In a press note issued, the police have stated that they have also recovered one white-coloured Ford Figo car, bearing the registration no-PB-65P-8384, from their possession.

The five were booked under sections 302, 148, 149 and 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act. The police said that an old enmity was behind the murder.

Most of the attackers allegedly belonged to SAD and were part of SAS Nagar MP Prem Singh Chandumajra's election campaign in the recent Lok Sabha elections. The victim also had at least three criminal cases against him.
