Two arrested with six stolen vehicles

With the arrest of two vehicle-lifters, which was disclosed by the police on Saturday, it claims to have solved six cases of two-wheeler thefts.

With the arrest of two vehicle-lifters, which was disclosed by the police on Saturday, it claims to have solved six cases of two-wheeler thefts.

Five motorcycles and one Honda Activa scooter (details, see box) were recovered from the duo, who used to steal motorcycles from various locations in the city by breaking the handle locks and further connecting the ignition wires of the vehicle directly. The duo was arrested on August 5.

On a tip-off, the team of Chandigarh police crime branch had laid a trap near Nirman Cinema, Sector 32, where they intercepted a person on a motorcycle. While questioning him, they found that he was riding a stolen motorcycle.

Raju Khatri, 24, a resident of Hallomajra, was nabbed at the barricade. During interrogation, he disclosed the name of his accomplice - Satnam Singh of Behlana. Satnam was earlier booked for theft in March last year.

Accused Raju alias Mahi is a habitual criminal as prior to this he was arrested in two cases of vehicle thefts.

Raju has been sent to judicial custody whereas his accomplice Satnam Singh is under police remand up to August 11.
