A day after one person died and 500 others suffered food poisoning during a pre-wedding function at Gannaur town of Sonepat district, a case has been registered against two shop owners who managed the food and services in the party.
"Based on the complaint by SMOs, community health centre, Dr Tina Anand and Dr Shyamlal, an FIR has been registered against Krishan Confectioners and Bharat Jain caterers, who had made all food-related arrangements at the wedding," Sonepat deputy commissioner Rajeev Ratan told HT on Sunday.
He said at around 11:30pm on Saturday, eight patients were admitted to the Civil Hospital in Sonepat and 15 others were taken to the Medical College in Khanpur. Except for two patients in the Civil Hospital, all have been discharged. The deceased was identified as Hari Prakash, 62.
Meanwhile, former chief minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, accompanied by MLAs Kuldeep Sharma and Jagbir Malik, reached Gannaur and met Prakash's family members.
Expressing his sympathy with the bereaved family, Hooda demanded a thorough investigation into the case and action against the accused for the alleged negligence.
Haryana social welfare minister, Kavita Jain, also went to Prakash's house to expressed her condolences with his family.
