In yet another incident of vandalism, two cars were set on fire in Sector 38 West by unidentified hooligans on Monday night. Giving details, the police said the vehicles — a Tata Indica Vista and a Hyundai i10 — were set ablaze outside house no 5488. A resident of the area, who was standing outside his home, noticed the cars engulfed in flames and immediately called up the police as well as the fire brigade.
According to police sources, the vandals threw an acid-like liquid on the cars, which were parked on a dead-end street, before setting them on fire. Fire department personnel, who later arrived at the scene, used a fire tender to douse the flames. The Tata Indica was badly burnt but the other car was only damaged partially.
The police said they were trying to ascertain if the cars were set afire because they were blocking parking space outside others’ houses.
Only last week a car was set afire in Sector 56 besides at least seven other cases of broken car windshields being reported.
On September 8 three cars parked outside houses in Sector 32 and two in Sector 35 were damaged by unidentified hooligans.
However, the police has not been able to catch the suspects in any of the incidents.
