Policemen on duty were yet again subjected to violence in two separate incidents in the city on Sunday.
In the first incident, a constable of the police control room vehicle deployed at Manimajra was assaulted by a man in an inebriated condition. Manimajra station house officer Rajesh Shukla said PCR constable Sandeep Kumar and two women constables had gone to a spot to resolve a brawl.
The accused was identified as Ashok Kumar, who was arguing with his wife and neighbours in an inebriated state. When constable Sandeep reached the spot, Ashok Kumar allegedly assaulted him and even tore his uniform. Additional police force was called and the accused was arrested.
In another incident, a traffic policeman was allegedly assaulted at a 'naka' set up to check the use of black films on vehicles at the Sector-43 roundabout. Though no complaint has been lodged yet, the deputy superintendent of police (traffic) has reportedly asked the victim policeman to report the matter.
In the past one week, four incidents of assault on policemen on duty have been reported.
On May 9, assistant sub-inspector Avtar Singh, posted at the police control room, suffered injuries after being hit by a jeep at a naka laid at the transport light point. On May 7, a constable of the Chandigarh traffic police was hit by a Sports Utility Vehicle at a naka set up to check use of black films on vehicles at the Sector-25/38 dividing road.
