Residents held two policemen hostage for allegedly siding with those who were involved in the incident when a Kuda Kalana resident Rajpal (54) was killed with sharp-edged weapons on the night of October 23.
Sources said assistant sub-inspector of police Om Parkash and sub-inspector Anil Kumar had come to the village and were allegedly making inquiries at the residences of murder accused Rahul, Sanjay, Hitesh and Kuldeep, adding that residents suspected cops were helping the accused and destroying evidence.
They said soon a large number of villagers gathered and locked the cops in a room and informed senior officers.
Locals said soon the assistant commissioner of police Rahul Dev and other senior officers reached the spot and rescued the cops after making inquiries.
According to sources, preliminary investigations revealed that the duo (Parkash and Kumar) had gone to the village without permission, following which the ACP suspended them and handed the murder over to the Central Intelligence Agency.
Meanwhile, all the four accused were produced before court and remanded to four days in police custody.
On Diwali night, Rajpal was attacked when he had objected to bursting of firecrackers because his buffalo was about to give birth.
His son Vikash, who was also injured during the incident, said his father was repeatedly pleading with the accused but they continued to burst crackers and instead attacked his father.
Brother of the deceased, Bhim Singh, who lodged the complaint said Rajpal was taken to the cantonment civil hospital where doctors pronounced him brought dead, adding that the officials at Mahesh Nagar police station did not cooperate and helped the accused to escape.
Locals further said large number of people had gathered at the civil hospital on the morning of October 24 protesting against the deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Surinder Pal, adding that the body was cremated only after the DCP's assurance.
