Two die, over 30 injured as bus rams truck in Hoshiarpur

Two persons were killed and about 30 injured when a tourist bus rammed into a stationary military truck near Maachhian village, 25 km from Hoshiarpur, on the Chandigarh-Pathankot highway in the wee hours on Saturday.

The bus was carrying pilgrims from Delhi to Vaishno Devi in Jammu and Kashmir. The accident occurred at about 5am.

Bus driver Sajid Khan allegedly dozed off and could not see the barricades raised around the stationary army vehicle, police said. He sustained serious injuries and is admitted to Hoshiarpur civil hospital.

UNI adds: Police sources said the dead were identified as bus conductor Balwinder Kumar of Kasoor in Alwar (Rajasthan) and one Vishvanath of Delhi.

The sources said that many injured were admitted in primary health centre, Bhunga, from where 14 were referred to civil hospital, Hoshiarpur. About two dozen other injured were admitted in civil hospital, Dasuya.

Hoshiarpur Civil Hospital SMO Anil Mahindra told that the bus driver, Sajid Khan of Delhi, was referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh. A police officer present on the spot said that Khan has suffered serious injuries to one of his lower limbs.
