The Haryana police has arrested two people for betting on the Indian Premiere League (IPL) match between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils and seven people for gambling.
The police said today that those betting on IPL matches have been arrested from Karnal district.
The police got a secret information that some people were betting on IPL match at Gharaunda in Karnal, which was being played between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils.
On conducting raid the police arrested Sunny and Sanjay, residents of Aggarwal colony, Gharaunda from the spot. The police recovered five mobile sets, a colour TV, a DTH, a ball pen and note book from their possession and have registered a case under Gambling Act against them.
In another incident, the police arrested four people indulged in gambling near NIT Faridabad. The accused have been identified as Shreepal, a resident of Rashulpur, district Bulandshehar, Uttar Pradesh, Puran Singh, a resident of Mohanpura, district Mathura, Ravi, a resident of Dhorka, district Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh and Ram Singh, a resident of Samdana, district Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The police has recovered an amount of Rs 3270 and playing cards from their possession and had registered a case under Gambling Act against them.
In another similar incident, the police arrested three people for indulging in gambling from Herbal Park, Gharaunda who had been identified as Dharamveer, a resident of Hanuman Mandir, Gharaunda, Sanjay, a resident of Bali Nagar, Gharaunda and Mahavir, a resident of Kashyap Chowk, Gharaunda. A case had been registered against them under Gambling Act, he added.
