Two held for sexual harassment

The local police arrested two persons on charges of sexual harassment of two girls, including a minor, in separate incidents in Chandigarh on Saturday.

The local police arrested two persons on charges of sexual harassment of two girls, including a minor, in separate incidents in Chandigarh on Saturday.

The accused in the first incident is Sandeep Kumar (28), resident of Railway Colony, Mauli Jagran.

Station house officer of Manimajra police station, inspector Charanjit Singh Virk, said the accused allegedly tried to molest the victim at a secluded place in Mauli Jagran when she was on her way back home.

The father of the victim had approached the police and lodged a complaint, after which the accused was arrested.

A case under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (punishment for sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered.

The accused was produced in a local court and sent to judicial custody.

In another incident, a minor girl alleged that Raja, resident of Ramdarbar, stopped her near the Ramdarbar market and passed lewd remarks at her.

A case under sections 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered at the Sector 31 police station.

The accused was produced in a local court and sent to judicial custody.
