The police arrested two persons in connection with a major theft at Chandimadir earlier this year, when an ATM machine was stolen , on Tuesday. With these arrests, the police claimed they solved the case.
On April 30, some persons took away the machine containing nearly Rs 16 lakh from an SBI ATM.
Om Prakash, a resident of Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) and Sonu, a resident of Dadua (Chandigarh), were arrested and produced before a local court on Wednesday and have been remanded to a five-day police custody.
The police claimed that Om Prakash, who worked as a security guard at Axis bank in Sector 5, Panchkula, and his accomplices, believed to be around four, used a Maruti car to carry away the machine.
The ATM had no guard posted outside despite the fact that the lock to the ATM was found broken a month before the incident.
The suspects were easily able to take away the machine as it was not embedded to the ground. The CCTV footage, which was found in a hard disk inisde the machine, could also not be retrieved.
The car used was also recovered from their possession. The ATM was inaugurated three-and-a-half months before the incident.
