Two impersonate as UT cops, dupe Kangra man

Two unidentified miscreants impersonating as cops of UT cops duped a Kangra resident of `22,000 and gold ring here on Friday.

The victim has been identified as Suresh Kumar (28).According to inspector Bhupinder Singh, SHO of the Sector 36 police station, the victim was waiting for a bus at the Sector 43 Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) when two unidentified persons approached him and introduced him as Chandigarh Police personnel.

They took him to a room for checking where they forcibly took his ATM card and a gold ring. The victim alleged that the accused persons took his ATM card pin number and withdrew rs 22,000 from his account.

Inspector Singh said the victim reported the matter to police through email. Acting on the complaint, a case under sections 356 (assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property carried by a person), 170 (personating a public servant), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (act done by several persons) of the Indian Penal Code was registered.
