The ongoing student's elections saw its first case of violence on Saturday, when members of Hindustan Student's Association (HSA and Punjab University Student's Union (PUSU) clashed at Government College, Sector 11, over a personal tussle.

HSA members namely Aman Brar, Vicky and Deepak Rana, hit the PUSU member with iron rods and wooden sticks in which Manpreet Singh and Supreet Singh Soni of PUSU were critically injured. They were rushed to Government Multi Specialty Hospital, sector 16. The alleged accused were later arrested.

An eye witness said, "The students had a verbal spat which later on turned violent with the party workers hitting each other with rods and sticks, the personal fight culminated into a party fight as soon as they came to know they were from a rival party."

Reportedly, at the time the fight was taking place on the premises, girls were also injured.
PUSU party incharge Sumit Goklaney said, "This was a personal fight that took an ugly turn and the party should not be dragged into the picture. Why should the elections be maligned due to the personal issues and even these students should understand that they should behave responsibly."
