Two more die, death toll reaches three in J&K avalanche

With the death of two more people, death toll in an avalanche reached three in Gurez sector where warning for fresh avalanche was issued today.

With the death of two more people, death toll in an avalanche reached three in Gurez sector where warning for fresh avalanche was issued today.

Official sources said a vehicle carrying labourers of Hindustan Construction Corporation (HCC) came under a huge avalanche at village Badwan in Gurez on March 19 evening.

Two labourers and driver of the vehicle were rescued by a joint party of Army, administration, police and local residents.

The injured were rushed to hospital where one of them succumbed to injuries. The other two have since died.

Meanwhile, a fresh snow avalanche warning has been issued in Kashmir valley and Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Following fresh snowfall during the past 24 hours, there is a danger of avalanche in Drass, Bhimbat, Kaksar, Gumri, Matayan in Ladakh region, head of the disaster management in Kashmir Aamir Ali said.

He said medium danger warning exists for Razdan Top, Kanzalwan, Dawar, Neeruru, Baruab and Chakwali while low danger warning has been issued for Dhudi, SM Hill, Gugaldara and Machhil near Line of Control and Gagangir, Sonamarg and Zojila.
