The crime branch of the Chandigarh Police nabbed two more members of the gang of auto lifters whose five members were arrested recently.
The police recovered 17 more stolen vehicles with the arrest of the duo.
Earlier this month, the police had recovered 18 vehicles with the arrest of five persons - Parveen Kumar, Shamsher Singh, Shahnawaj, Asim, and Irfan of an auto-lifters' gang.
Police sources said on April 1, Shamsher was arrested for cheating in the Sector-39 police station. On his information, the police recovered 10 stolen vehicles, which included Bolero Jeep, Indigo car and Swift car.
Shamsher told the police that that they used sell stolen vehicles to Kuldeep of Sonepat and Balram Ratwana alias Rahul of New Delhi.
On Shamsher's information, Kuldeep was arrested on April 3 from near Kishangarh village and Rahul was arrested on April 8 from near Gurdwara Santsar Sahib Sector 38 (West).
During interrogation, accused Rahul told the police about five stolen vehicles. He also helped in getting recovered a Bolero Jeep, besides four other vehicles.
The vehicles recovered from Rahul included Indigo and Scorpio cars.
Elaborating on the modus operandi, DSP Satbir Singh said accused Parveen Kumar, according to the police, was kingpin of the gang. He used to lift vehicles and hand it over to Shamsher, Shahnawaj, Asim and Irfan, who used to tamper with the engine/ chassis number and prepared fake documents of these vehicles. On completion of the process, they used to handover the stolen vehicles to Kuldeep and Rahul, who further sold these vehicles to innocent buyers.
