Snatchers continue to run amok in the city. Two persons were targeted by unidentified miscreants in separate incidents on Sunday.
In the first incident, the victim, Parmod Kumar Abrol, told police that two men attacked him from behind in broad daylight near Sector-42 park and snatched his mobile phone, a ring and Rs 1,500 in cash.
He sounded the police, who registered a case of assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property carried by a person and theft under sections 356 and 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Sector-36 police station.
In another incident, Kulwinder Singh, a resident of SAS Nagar, reported that a man tried to snatch his bag near the Sector-35 inner market. Acting on the complaint, a case has been registered at Sector-36 police station. In both cases, police are yet to make any arrest.
The Chandigarh police have failed to check snatching incidents despite tall claims. In the current year, more than 70 snatching incidents have been reported, of which only a handful have been solved.
On September 16, as many as four women were targeted by snatchers in separate incidents, while on September 17, a Manimajra resident was attacked by two unidentified scooterists, who snatched his mobile phone. On September 20, Sukhvir Kaur, a Sector 20 resident, helped the police arrest a youth, who tried to snatch her gold chain.
