The residents of the houses for the economically weaker section (EWS) in Sector 37 had complained about the misuse of the government quarters. They had alleged that the houses were illegally occupied by persons, in connivance of government officials.

The complainants alleged that the illegal created nuisance, inconveniencing residents. Following this, a case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act last year.

An inquiry was conducted and, in February this year, the vigilance team checked the houses in question. During the checking, nine houses were found to be occupied illegally. These houses had been rented out by Jagjit and Mohinder Pal. During the investigation, the original reports regarding the occupation of the houses were recovered.
