The University Business School (UBS) at Panjab University (PU) came forward in support of their faculty members, after the UT police booked the UBS chairperson, AK Vashisht and faculty member Dinesh Gupta, for sexually harassing an assistant professor at the department on Tuesday.

The faculty members at the department held a meeting in support of both Vashisht and Gupta on Wednesday.

The faculty members also seemed to be irked over the fact that senior authorities at varsity including PU V-C Prof Arun Grover did not act timely in the incident.

Speaking to HT, officiating chairperson Prof SK Chadha said, “We all are shocked and we know this is the outcome of ego clash. We all are in support of Vashsiht and Gupta and have written a letter to the V-C, asking him to act in the case and save image of UBS”.

Chadha said the faculty members have been getting calls from all around the world wanting to know the issue.

The faculty members have written another letter addressing the inspector general of police, showing their support towards Gupta and Vashisht. The faculty members said they would also meet the IG personally in this regards. Further adding, Prof Karamjit another faculty member, said, “It is a very sad incident. The faculty members have joined hands together to support our two faculty members. UBS is a known name and the episode has tarnished its image completely”.

The faculty even wants the higher authorities to intervene and settle the internal enquiry at the earliest. The faculty members said they have been witness to the entire episode and were aware that who was at fault. They said this was the result of ego clash and politics in the department.

However, both these faculty members have proceeded on leave and have not contacted anyone at the department till now.

Puta meeting
Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) will hold a meeting on Thursday to discuss the issue of UBS. During the meeting they will decide as how PUTA will be taking up the issue.
