Under hammer in US, city heritage items fetch Rs 86 lakh

Once again the city heritage went under the hammer on Friday. The heritage items designed by city's founder architect Le Corbusier's cousin Pierre Jeanneret were auctioned by Chicago-based Wright's Auction House and it fetched about $1.4 lakh (about Rs 86 lakh).

Once again the city heritage went under the hammer on Friday. The heritage items designed by city's founder architect Le Corbusier's cousin Pierre Jeanneret were auctioned by Chicago-based Wright's Auction House and it fetched about $1.4 lakh (about Rs 86 lakh).

As per Wright's official website (www.wright20.com), in all eight items were auctioned, of which six finally got sold. It was the pair of committee armchairs from the assembly building which fetched the maximum price of $40,000 (approximately `25 lakh). The auction price for this pair of chairs had been kept at $25,000-30,000. Following this, there was another such pair of armchairs which went for $37,500 (approximately 86 23 lakh).

Also, put on auction was an executive desk from the Chandigarh administration office which fetched $15,000 (about 86 9.3 lakh). A file rack again from Chandigarh administration building was sold for $16,250 (approximately `10 lakh); a desk from Chandigarh College of Architecture went for $7,500 (approximately 86 4.7 lakh); and a folding screen again from administration office went for $22,500
