A 26-year-old youth was shot dead on Sunday night by unidentified people near Majara chowk, National Highway 72 (Chandigarh-Kala amb - Dehradun), 35 km from here.

The deceased has been identified as Daler alias Sahil, a resident of Haryana's Kaithal district. The body has been sent for postmortem to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla.

Police said the cause of murder was yet to be ascertained. "During the preliminary investigation it has been revealed that the deceased was staying with his contemporaries at Majra in a rented house," added the police.

They said on Sunday night Sahil was sleeping in the courtyard and the attackers shot him from a close range. The police have also sought the record of mobile.

Meanwhile, the police have rounded up three people for interrogation. Assistant superintendent of police (ASP) NS Negi said the samples collected from the spot had been sent to a forensic laboratory. He has expressed hope that the case would be soon cracked.
