Bhagwanpur village

Perturbed over some youths harassing her, a 16-yearold girl allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance near Bhagwanpur village in Barwala on Tuesday.

The victim, Amarjeet Kaur, was found by her family who rushed her to a hospital in Dera Bassi, where she died.

In his complaint to police, Kaur’s father Rajinder Singh alleged that some youths of the village had been harassing Kaur for the past few months. They used to pass obscene remarks over mobile phone calls, he alleged, adding that when Kaur switched off her phone, the youths started visiting their house, following which Kaur informed them about the ongoings.

“We have verified the call details of the girl’s phone and there were repeated calls from four particular numbers. We have registered a case of abetment to suicide on the basis of the victim’s father’s complaint,” said inspector Arvind Kumar, station house officer (SHO) of Chandimandir police station.

The police maintained that there could be a possibility of involvement of one person who had been using multiple numbers.
