Police arrested four jail warders late Wednesday night on charge of helping inmates keep mobile phones and SIM cards in the new jail complex at village Sunaria in the district.Police also arrested two inmates on Thursday, who were sent in police remand for three days by a local court.
Accused warders Rajpal, Ashok, Verender and Yogesh have been remanded in one-day police custody.
As many as 16 inmates have already been arrested by police from whom mobiles and SIM cards were seized. The police have also arrested Rajiv of Sonf village on charge of providing SIM cards.
Police had seized 19 mobile phones, 14 SIM cards and huge quantity of prohibited drugs from jail barracks during a surprise check on Monday. Police constituted a special investigation team which came across the alleged involvement of accused warders.
Cases have already been registered against inmates from whom mobiles and contraband were seized by Shivaji police.
The new jail complex was inaugurated by chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in the second week of April and around 1,043 inmates were shifted here from the old jail complex, situated opposite the new bus stand of the city.
