The Chandigarh election department has made elaborate ar rangements for counting of votes for the 16th Lok Sabha elections on May 16. The counting will be held at Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET).
For smooth conduct of affairs, the de par tment has deployed as many as 200 staff for counting duty and a total of 28 tables have been set up where the counting will be done in 19 rounds.
The counting will begin at 8am and the result will be officially declared around 3pm.
As per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, on each table, there will be one counting supervisor, one counting assistant and one micro-observer.
From the available database of the vote-counting personnel, it has been lear ned that, the retur ning officer (RO) has appointed required number of counting assistants and supervisors. The de par tment has also appointed sufficient number of Group D gover nment employees to car ry the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to and from the counting tables and also to seal the machines after counting.
Each counting table will have a micro-observer, who will be responsible for the immaculate counting process on his/ her respective table.
For convenience of workers of different parties, the department will install a screen, displaying all information related to vote counting, at the centre.
Besides, elaborate security arrangements have also been put in place. Three-tier cordoning system will be set up on all counting premises to prevent entry of unauthorised persons inside the counting zones.
Moreover, 100-metre periphery around a counting premise will be demarcated as pedestrian’s zone. No vehicles will be allowed within this perimeter.
Proper barricading of this demarcated zone will also be done.
