The UT education department on Friday honoured eight teachers with state awards, five teachers with commendation certificates and three officials with appreciation certificates for their outstanding contribution in the field of education during the Teacher’s Day function at Tagore Theatre.
Over 900 teachers and principals of various government schools of Chandigarh and administration officials participated in the annual celebration.
KK Sharma, adviser to the UT administrator, was the chief guest on the occasion.
He congratulated all awardees and appreciated their contribution to the cause of education.
He said teaching is a noble profession and the pillars of nation rest on teachers. The special bond between teachers and students becomes needed to be nurtured more, he added.
Kamlesh Kumar, director of public instruction (DPI) schools, congratulated all the principals and teachers for their contribution adding that the quality of education would not be possible without their contribution.
UT finance-cum-education secretary Sarvjit Singh and other officials of the education department were also present on the occasion. The event concluded with the recital of National Anthem.
