The UT administration has imposed section 144 of the CrPC in around 1,000-metre radius of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) Building on Tuesday, anticipating protest by the members of the Chandigarh Housing Board Employees Coordination Committee to register their protest against long-pending demand for pension.

The orders were passed by UT deputy commissioner Mohammed Shayin keeping in view that protest or any agitation could cause obstruction, annoyance or injury to persons lawfully employed, disturb public peace and tranquillity and cause riots and affrays.

The above order shall not apply to the police or paramilitary or military personnel or any other government servant on official duty, processions or meetings for which prior permission in writing of the district magistrate/sub-divisional magistrate has been obtained and the customary and ritualistic procession in connection with weddings and funerals. The order shall come into force with effect from zero hour.
